The Supernaturlist

I am reading the book "The Supernaturalist"  by Eoin Colfer (pronounced Owen). The book takes place in the far future where humanity has fallen apart in some places. The place that the story takes place is Satellite city. The sky is so polluted chemical smog appears every night, and most of all invisible parasites roam around and suck the life force of humans that are injured. Even a cut can get the attention of a parasite and then they suck you dry.

                  The protagonists name is Cosmo Hill a no-sponsor (which is an orphan in the future) is sent to a "orphanage" called Clarissa Fray. It is actually a highly dangerous chemical testing facility where people test chemicals on the no-sponsers. Cosmo realizes he has to escape but he can't leave his friend Ziploc behind. So on the back from a "field trip" the carrier crashes because a satellite that controls the car went wild. The car flipped and Cosmo and Ziploc escape they run to the top of the roof where they are trapped on top of a building cornered by a warden. They decide to jump off. They survive the fall but when they land their handcuffs get caught in a electric wire which electrocutes them. This kills Ziplock but leaves Cosmo with unusual powers to see invisible parasites suck the life force from him a Ziplock.

                   Cosmo is taken into a secret HQ known as the HQ for a group of teenagers known as "The Supernaturlists" who have the same powers as Cosmo. They help kill the parasites that suck the life force from people who are wounded. But later in the book the group finds out something that turns everything onto it's head!
